"Women Who Dance" is an ongoing photo project that explores and celebrates woman's relationship with the body and self as seen in dance. I work with women of all ages, shapes, and backgrounds. I choose to collaborate (as opposed to "photographing subjects"), and each woman tells her story through her choice of location, music, and movement. I bear witness with my camera, superimposing some of my own self onto the images in the process.
In society today, we are bombarded with messages of what we should look like and who we should be. The messages and responses are different for each woman. It is rare to witness a woman truly inhabiting and celebrating her body; with courage, strength, and joy; without shame. It is this that I sometimes glimpse in women dancing, and this that I seek to honor and celebrate. We thank you for taking the time to view our work and hope you enjoy "Women Who Dance".
